Shattered Dreams and other Metaphors of Loss
February 22, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am
| FreeJoin us on Monday, February 22, 2021 from 9:00 to 10:30 am on Zoom.
Grieving persons frequently use metaphors to describe their grief. Metaphors can both contribute to clarity or understanding and be confusing or misconstrued. Professionals and volunteers can easily assume they understand metaphors used by individuals and families rather than skillfully following metaphors, listening for layers of meaning. A shattered dream is just one of many such metaphors.
In this experiential workshop participants will discuss with one another and the speaker the use of shattered dreams and related metaphors in their work. Applications to one’s work will be emphasized, augmented by attention to the care of the volunteer or professional.
Presenter Ted Bowman is a grief and family educator who specializes in change and the resulting loss and grief. He has taught at the Universities of Minnesota and Saint Thomas and led workshops throughout Minnesota and other states. He is also the author of many articles and booklets related to loss of dreams.
