Preventing Sexual Abuse: The Importance of Lifespan Comprehensive Sexuality Education
November 7, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
This presentation and conversation will make the case for the importance of family and faith community involvement in sexuality education as a means of primary prevention of sexual abuse. The foundation of this perspective is that teaching children about their bodies and sexuality in age-appropriate ways helps children identify and avoid sexual abuse. This education aids in building healthy communication and relationship skills within families, and helps empower children to make healthier choices about sexual behavior. Building family communication skills around sexuality also creates support for young people to report potential sexual abuse more often. Resources and practical tools will be offered.
